What is SpecialKids?
Early 2003 saw the launch of the magazine SpecialKids. This bi-monthly publication was created by parents of a special needs child as an informative magazine covering a wide range of topics and disabilities, where caregivers of children with special needs can receive (and give) information, tips, and support both from specialists and other caregivers with children having similar needs. It covers a host of topics, offers medical advice, schooling issues, a brother / sister page with competitions and prizes, letters, upcoming events, and contact information.
At the conception of the magazine, importance was placed on ensuring that readers were presented with a magazine that would be a pleasure to read and at the same time give parents and caregivers of special needs children a forum to share experiences and information. Although SpecialKids covers a wide spectrum of disabilities, one of the basic tenets of the magazine is that no matter what the disability, many of the challenges to be overcome are common.

  • Hi. I just recently read the Special Kids mag. It’s great. My son Jake is 7 and he has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and he suffered a stroke at nine months old. Could I order a copy as I know a few parents who may be interested in the mag to read.
